Facilities used on the sea, such as ships and offshore oil drilling rigs, demand extreme safety and reliability, and have to be approved by government authorities or ship classification societies. Utilizing its wealth of experience in high technology, Fujikura also has been developing oceanic electro-mechanical cables, such as deep-sea cables with excellent properties as accessories to seabed surveying equipment.

Shipboard cables
Cables used on shipboard are being laid more and more densely in narrower spaces. They are required to be mechanically strong, flame-retardant and flexible.

Rig cables
Marine structures such as offshore oil drilling rigs, are often in service under severe natural circumstances, for instance in the Arctic Ocean or tropical zones. Cables intended for use under these harsh conditions must have high resistance to heat and cold, as well as high flame retardance and flexibility.

Oceanic electro-mechanical cables
Recently, Japan also has been promoting marine development projects. Fujikura has been supplying various special cables for use in such projects. In the 3.300 m deep-sea unmanned vehicle "Dolphin 3K" project being promoted by the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center, for example, Fujikura played a major role as supervisor for the total cable system, which has been demonstrating very high performance and reliability since its completion.
